Screening of L’Homme de Rio (That Man from Rio; 1964), by Philippe de Broca

The soldier Adrien Dufourquet has been looking forward to his military leave to meet again his fiancée Agnès in the Parisian capital. While seating in the train on his way to Paris, a Maltec statuette brought to France by the professor Catalan, is stolen at the museum of Man. Questioned by the law officer, Professor Catalan reveals the statuette is part of a set of three. Villermosa, Explorer and Agnès’ Father also discovered one of them and hid it in Rio before he died and Agnès is the only person to know the exact location of the statuette. Agnès’ kidnapping in front of Adrien will lead him to do everything in his power to save her. It is the beginning of a thrilling adventure for the young couple, on the search for a treasure that only the stauettes will reveal the location. From Paris to Rio de Janeiro to Brazilia and to the far reaches of Amazonia, this succession of extraordinary events showcase great actors and a magnificent aesthetic.

French filmmaker Philippe de Broca (1933-2004) was part of the French New Wave cinematographic movement and started his career as the assistant of filmmakers Claude Chabrol and François Truffaut. In 1965, his well-known movie That Man from Rio was nominated for the Oscar for best scenario.
