What are the benefits of studying at the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi?
- Academic excellence
Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi offers identical programmes, identical lectures and identical degrees as those offered in Paris.
Depending on the programmes and the degrees that belong to Paris-Sorbonne to teach languages, humanities, and social sciences; Paris-Descartes for law, management and economics; and Pierre et Marie Curie University for science faculty are either assigned from France or hired locally.
The academic standards for graduation are the same in Paris and in Abu Dhabi. Our university follows highly selective admission procedures to maintain our standards of excellence, while also limiting the number of students in each class.
Located in the heart of the Middle East, just five hours flight from half of the world’s major capitals and linking Asia to the world, the UAE enjoys an exceptionally attractive location for students coming from other countries or seeking to immerse themselves in international cultures.
- One of the best places to live in the Middle East
It is no coincidence that Abu Dhabi and Dubai are regularly ranked as the two best places to live in the Middle East. In addition to the miles of beaches and year-round sunshine, the harmony and tolerance that prevail make Abu Dhabi a favourite destination. It is also has one of the lowest crime rates in the world. Moreover, the government has established the best facilities for education and health, while many cultural and sporting events are held regularly.
- Multi-cultural environment
People from more than 120 countries live in the UAE, and students at the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi represent over 75 nationalities. This makes the country, the city and the university a cultural melting pot. The Emirate of Abu Dhabi has also attracted a number of international institutions. It houses the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the CNN Middle East headquarters.
In an increasingly globalised economy, Abu Dhabi’s multicultural society offers students a unique window to the world and a particularly fulfilling international environment.
- Political stability
The UAE is a young nation, having only celebrated its 42nd birthday in December 2013. However in terms of stability, safety and security, it has already set a precedent at the regional level and earned international recognition. As a member of the United Nations and the World Trade Organisation, the UAE made a remarkable contribution to the G20 Summit in Cannes in 2010, and maintains good diplomatic relations with the world.
- Economic opportunities
On the economic front, the city of Abu Dhabi and the country of the United Arab Emirates continue to emerge as global leaders, which is remarkable considering that the global economy has slowed down significantly. Over the last decade, Abu Dhabi has consistently been among the world’s fastest growing economies. Between 2000 and 2010, the emirate’s GDP grew by 238%. Foreign trade grew by 257% while investments grew by 433%.
Today, Abu Dhabi is diversifying its economy and opening up long-term strategic sectors with high added value such as education, health, tourism and media. The Economic Vision 2030 aims to strengthen sectors such as government, renewable energy, logistics, aerospace and manufacturing. This creates a wide range of career opportunities for graduates in Abu Dhabi.
- Sorbonne’s tradition of excellence
Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi strives to meet the goals of the UAE to train future executives in new and influential sectors. Its various Masters programmes are directly aligned to the needs of the labour market – for instance in banking and finance, museums, management of performing arts, marketing in publishing, international affairs, sustainable development in urban planning and development, in international business law, or in teaching French to Arabic students. Hence the Sorbonne Abu Dhabi is not only “a bridge between civilisations” as our motto says, but also a bridge between the traditions of academic excellence and the modern world.
