DSC_2140Abu Dhabi 5 May 2014 – Paris – Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi hosted the 2014 Sports Banquet at the university campus in Al Reem Island. This banquet gathered athletes from all universities belonging to the ADISL (Abu Dhabi Interuniversity Sports League): New York University Abu Dhabi, Zayed University, Petroleum Institute, Masdar Institute, Abu Dhabi Men’s College, Abu Dhabi Women’s College, Al Khawarizmi International College, Khalifa University and PSUAD. The Sports Banquet exists to celebrate the end of ADISL championships (7 sports: Soccer, Basketball, Table Tennis, Badminton, Bowling, Squash and Speed Chess)) and reward best teams & players.
DSC_1956More than 350 students attended this event and around 150 students were rewarded. The 2014 Sports Banquet concluded with a final buffet gala dinner.
In an opening address, Eric Fouache, Vice Chancellor of the University, underlined that one of the objectives of the ADISL Championships is to strengthen the bonds between students, reinforce group work, promote team spirit and instill the values and ethics of fair play. This serves to foster the culture of dialogue, tolerance and mutual respect, in addition to sparking friendly rivalry to nurture socialization and ties between students of different universities in the UAE.
Sorbonne Abu Dhabi gives prime attention to sports as a top extracurricular offered to students given its benefits to physical and mental health and socializing. Sorbonne Abu Dhabi offers some twenty different sports for recreation in dedicated facilities and provides students with further opportunities for exploration and development and the chance to participate in events and tournaments organized by regional universities in the emirate of Abu Dhabi. PSUAD will make available a sports management program in association with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC) and the International Center for Sports Studies (CIES), with the support of FIFA, as of the upcoming 2014/2015 academic year to nurture future generations.
