Sorbonne Abu Dhabi’s participation in Abu Dhabi Classics

Description

Full Description

Sharing the vision of contributing to the strengthening of intercultural dialogue and the appreciation of different cultures, Paris-Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (PSUAD) participated in Abu Dhabi Classics; organized by Dhabi Culture and Heritage (ADACH). PSUAD’s participation scoped the pre-concert classical music lectures.

Associate professor and Head of Languages and Business studies at PSUAD; Dr. Ronald Perlwitz discussed The Titan – Mahler’s symphony No 1 bearing in mind the objective of ‘introducing the listeners to the intellectual background of Mahler’s music and to explain some of the great principles of his symbolic style, many influences like Richard Wagner’. He remarked: “throughout the lecture, I tried to highlight the genius of this work, its context in the very late of the Romantic Movement, and the rise of the industrialization and capitalism”. Dr. Perlwitz added that the main steps of the symphony reflected citation, illustration and indispensible guide to neophytes. He also assessed the depth of individualized work presented by New York symphonic orchestra.

The agenda includes further significant lectures on the Romantic Music in Germany, Antonin Dvorak and the new World, Maria Calas and La Traviata, and Richard Wagner’s Myths in the coming months.

It is worthy to note that Dr. Perlwitz had given a lecture on Beethoven’s symphony No 7 at the American University of Sharjah last week explaining the different movements that comprised the seventh symphony.
