Kostas J. Kyriakopoulos (Dipl. with Honors, National Technical University of Athens, 1985; MS & Ph.D. Computer & Systems Engineering, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, USA in 1987 and 1991). From 1988 to 1991, he did research at the NASA Center for Intelligent Robotic Systems for Space Exploration. Between 1991 and 93, he was an Assistant Professor at the New York State Center for Advanced Technology in Automation and Robotics. Between 1994 and 2022, he was with the National Technical University of Athens, where he served as a Professor, Director of the Post-Graduate Program on "Automation Systems", and Director of the “Control Systems Lab”. Since 2022, he has been a Professor and Head of the Electrical Engineering Program of New York University, Abu Dhabi, where he serves as Director of the “Field Robotics Lab”, associated with the “Center for AI & Robotics”. He was awarded the G. Samaras Award for Academic Excellence, the Bodosakis Foundation Fellowship (1986-1989), the Alexander Onassis Foundation Fellowship (1989-1990), and an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship (1993). He has published more than 400 papers in journals and refereed conferences (h-index: 64). He is an IEEE Fellow, a Specialty Chief Editor for "Frontiers in Robotics and AI", and recently concluded his term as a Senior Editor of «ΙΕΕΕ/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics». He has acted as a PI in 35 R&D projects, half of which were funded by the European Commission.
