Cultural Heritage and Desert Environment in the Arabian Peninsula Exhibition by Students of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi

Date: 26 April – 12 May 2023
Time: 10:00 am – 7:00 pm
Venue: Atrium, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi Campus

Abstract:

Discover how many fields of research are involved in Cultural Heritage study at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. This students’ exhibition will highlight research on Heritage in the Gulf area achieved by undergraduate students from 3 departments: Archaeology and History of Art, Geography and Planning and Sciences and Engineering. From the discovery of ancient objects and their study to their exhibition, science is present at each of these stages and creates a connection between past civilizations and future generations.

The objective of this exhibition is to illustrate interdisciplinary research carried out at SUAD on a new field of study: cultural heritage science. It gathers undergraduate students and researchers from different but complementary fields, such as Archaeology, Physics, and Geography. This exhibition will therefore be an opportunity to give an overview of scientific advances in research on ancient material culture, heritage and archaeology. At the same time, it aims at promoting the importance of laboratory analyses in the process of understanding ancient and traditional societies.

This exhibition entitled SUAD Students’ Exhibition: Cultural Heritage and Desert Environment in the Arabian Peninsula will include, on the one hand, research posters illustrating collaborative research at SUAD, and on the other hand, pieces from private collections. Additionally, some archaeological findings collected during surveys conducted by the university in the Dubai Emirate, more precisely at the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve (DDCR) will be displayed. Finally, there will also be 3D copies of archaeological artefacts displayed in interactive holographic showcases.
