The first day of classes for students in Executive Diploma in Sports Management

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi celebrated the first day of classes for the newly admitted students to the Executive Diploma in Sports Management, the Executive Diploma in Sports Management is an outcome of a partnership between UAE Football Association, and the International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES). The 2021/2022 intake is comprised of 19 male and female students representing 9 nationalities from widely different backgrounds and work in diverse places across the Middle East including KSA Ministry of Sports, City Football Middle East, International Knee and Joint Center, Al Ain Football Club, UAE Pro League as well as many others.

Prof Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, HE Mohammed Abdullah Hazzam Al Dhaheri, The General Secretary of the UAE Football Association, Mr Vincent Monnier, CIES Senior Manager for International Relations, welcomed the students on campus on their first day of classes. HE Sheikh Rashid Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Chairman of the UAE Football Association commented “We have always aspired to develop and broaden our local and international partnerships and networks to achieve a full social and educational integration in the sports industry through deploying all the available resources. We believe that supporting our partners by helping them achieve their goal, launch their programmes and implement their strategic plans, will enable us to build bridges of knowledge and development.

UAE Football Association congratulates and fully supports Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi for offering the Executive Diploma in Sports Management, a programme that empowers a generation of youth and equips them with the necessary knowledge in professional sports management. We are confident that Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi has the full potential and capabilities to fulfil this mission.

His excellency concluded “We are very keen on supporting sports educational programmes that enrich the sports sector in the country by providing a solid foundation of best practices in the field.”

Prof Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi commented: “at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi we are pleased to welcome the new cohort of Executive Diploma in Sports Management to campus in the presence of our partners UAE Football Association and CIES-FIFA. The Executive Diploma in Sports Management is a comprehensive programme that has been designed to combine theoretical education with practical case studies to enrich students with the needed skills and knowledge and graduate professionals who are able to adapt with the ongoing regional and national requirements of the sports industry and become leaders in their fields.”

HE Mohammed Abdullah Hazzam Al Dhaheri, The General Secretary of the UAE Football Association, commented “As of June, we have been working closely with our partners, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and CIES to launch the Executive Diploma in Sports Management which is supported by the UAE Football Association. The diploma covers 6 essential fields of sports management which are marketing/sponsorship, management, finance, sports law, communications, and sports events management. These fields are essential and act as the basic pillars of any professional sports system that seeks stability and administrative success in all aspects. In the last three months, the CIES and Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi have exerted tremendous efforts in cooperating and communicating with the UAE Football Association to set the appropriate timeframe for offering the Executive Diploma in Sports Management, which is taking place today. We are very pleased and proud to be part of this promising project that will yield a generation of qualified professionals in sports management. The Executive Diploma in Sports management is the first step towards many other accomplishments and advancements that are yet to be achieved in the upcoming years. We aim to support the sports industry by creating a sustainable sports environment equipped with national calibers that are experts in many aspects of sports management.”
