Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi recruits a robot to welcome students at its annual Open Day event
21 February, 2019Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi organized today its annual Open Day event under the theme “Your Future starts now”. The postgraduate Open Day will take place on Saturday February 23 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm; on the university’s campus in Al Reem Island. The event aims to orient students, parents, teachers, counselors and many others involved in higher education about the programmes and the university life.
During the Open Day event, visitors explored the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes offered by the university and got the chance to meet faculty and students, while discovering a state-of-the art campus. The itinerary included campus tours throughout the day, various introductory workshops as well as presentations by the Academic departments.
In line with the UAE Innovation Month, the university applied the recent technologies in Artificial Intelligence by recruiting a Robot to welcome visitors and attend to their inquiries. This initiative reflects the university’s strategy towards expanding its programmes offerings to support the UAE goals in this direction.
Dr. Fatima Saeed Al Shamsi, Deputy Executive Director for Administrative Affairs at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi said: “Our annual Open Day event is an opportunity for students graduating from schools to learn more about the different programmes and facilities that Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi has to offer them for an exceptional academic experience. Through these educational and informative events, we aim to highlight the cultural diversity on campus, which reflect a tolerant and healthy environment, foster relationships between current students, visitors and professors as well showcase the modern facilities available”.
The schools that participated follow different education systems. Hence, informative presentations about the French system, the admission process and the different requirements took place to highlight the enriching academic experience at the university.
Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi offers 9 undergraduate programmes and 13 postgraduate programmes with degrees awarded by Paris Descartes and by Sorbonne University in Paris, ranked 1st in France, 9th in Europe and amongst the top 50 worldwide.
