27 February, 2019

Recognizing the importance of digital transformation and the efficiency of using innovative technologies in teaching and learning, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi adopted its digital transformation plan by launching four digital projects. This initiative comes in line with the UAE Innovation Month 2019 and aims at transforming the university’s campus into a “digital campus”. This project is expected to have a significant positive impact on the education outcomes through enriching students, graduates and employees knowledge.

This digital transformation plan 2019/2020 is based on a well thought out technique that explored future learning requirements. It also examined modern technology characteristics and suitability with the education’s requirements and its capacity to stimulate and enhance students’ academic experience with modern tools and methodologies. Thus, the university’s Digital Transformation and Innovation Department has launched four dynamic digital projects that include Sorbonne Education Application”, “Sorbonne Space”, “Comprehensive registration service” and “Sorbonne Robot”.

Commenting on this initiative, Mr. Hamdan Al Kalbani, Head of the Digital Transformation and Innovation Department at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, said: “To support the UAE’s vision in empowering innovation, we launched these projects that aim at facilitating students’ academic life as well the employee’s professional career. In line with our strategy to provide innovative digital solutions that strengthen the university’s position in the UAE and the region; we are keen to implement the latest technology in the service of knowledge”.
“Sorbonne Education Application” project enables students and professors to access educational content, conduct discussions and communicate with each other through mobile devices running on IOS and Android.
“Sorbonne Space” project is a unified digital platform through which employees, professors and students can access all digital services without difficulty. In addition, it alerts the users on the new services that have been developed to make the most out of the digital services offered by Sorbonne Abu Dhabi University.

The “Comprehensive registration service” project aims at improving and speeding up the internal registration procedures. Once students have been accepted by the Admissions Department, they receive a user ID and password, e-mail, educational programmes and campus access systems without having to refer to the Department of Digital Transformation and Innovation.

“Sorbon Robot” project is a robot within the artificial intelligence technology. It works through a virtual programmed employee to simulate employee’s daily tasks. The robot has been tested to read handwritten applications, which are inserted by the robot in the student recruitment programme.

In this context, the university is currently studying ways to keep enhancing the virtual employee to support the various departments.
