The Bachelor in Law provides students with extensive knowledge and methodologies of private and public French laws, paving the way for further specialisation at Masters and PhD levels.

The objective of the Bachelor in Law is to provide with an understanding of modern society through political, social, historical and philosophical perspectives and prepare students for successful careers in the legal profession.

During all three years of study, students comprehensively study French private and public laws, which has served as a major source of inspiration for the establishment of several laws in different regions of the world, particularly in the Middle East. They will also develop strong analytical tools improving their ability to arrive at well-reasoned opinions.

During the first two years, students explore a range of legal disciplines including constitutional law, civil law, international relations, criminal law, administrative law and business law amongst other legal disciplines. During the third year, students learn about intellectual property law, fundamental freedom laws, labour law, EU law and general tax law amongst others.

As language is core to the degree programme, some courses are taught in English and, a language course has been integrated to expand our students’ capacity in this area, which prepares them for further study or international careers in the legal profession.

To supplement academic study, visits to judicial, administrative and corporate institutions coupled with visits by industry speakers are organised for students to learn about and experience the practical side of the legal profession.

The programme faculty are internationally renowned professors whose teaching methodology goes beyond the traditional forms of teaching to ensure a balanced and well-rounded learning experience. Non-French speaking students can benefit from the “longer system” which allows them to complete the first year over two years. At the begining of the year, a test exam helps students choose between the regular curriculum and the “longer system”. Individual or group tutoring is available based on the strengths and weaknesses of each student.

There are abundant opportunities with a Bachelor degree in Law and students can pursue successful careers including judges, solicitors, barristers, commercial lawyers, civil servants or advisors/officials of international organisations. Additionally, careers prospects include access to public and private sectors as consultants and legal representatives to a spectrum of fields including banking, health, trade, communications, FMCG firms and industries. Following the Bachelor’s degree, students can pursue the following Masters at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi: Banking and Finance, International Business Law or International Law, International Relations and Diplomacy (general degree or a specialisation in Defence and International Security). The Master’s degree also prepares graduates for a Doctorate degree.

All students can apply for “le Barreau de Paris”. The courses of the Institute of Judicial Studies (IEJ) are now also given in a dematerialised way and can thus be followed in addition to the completion of first year of master.
