Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi (SUAD) is proud to announce that it has won first place in the Environmental Research Institute category of the Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Environmental Award.
Launched by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), the award recognises exceptional initiatives across the UAE that advance environmental protection and sustainable resource management. The award ceremony, held at Al Nakheel Palace in Abu Dhabi, was received on behalf of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi by Dr Majed Alkemeiri, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administrative Affairs, and Dr Beatriz Garcia, Sustainability Officer, both representing the University’s commitment to excellence in environmental research and sustainability.
The award required SUAD to demonstrate excellence in four key areas:
- Leadership & environmental governance
- Research innovation & operational effectiveness
- Institutional recognition & capacity building
- Impacts & outcomes
This recognition highlights SUAD’s firm commitment to driving environmental research, innovation, and community engagement. Through Sorbonne Abu Dhabi for Innovation and Research Institute (SAFIR), our faculty and researchers lead projects addressing key national priorities, from waste management and water desalination to urban sustainability and climate adaptation.
Sustainability at SUAD is a core pillar embedded across teaching, research, and operations, in line with our Strategic Plan 2024–2028 and the recently adopted Sustainability Strategy 2030. To receive this recognition, SUAD demonstrated excellence not only in impactful environmental research but also in leadership and environmental governance, campus operations, teaching and programmes, partnerships, capacity building, and community engagement.
