Bio
Aude Epstein is Associate Professor of Law and currently serves as Provost at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, where she oversees academic affairs and contributes to the University’s academic strategy, programme development and quality assurance. Her academic leadership role complements her research interests in the transformation of higher education and the ways in which institutions respond to contemporary societal challenges.
Her research lies at the intersection of environmental law, animal law, and economic law. She has extensively examined the foundations, methods, and implications of the growing role of private actors in the creation and enforcement of environmental standards, addressing issues such as corporate social responsibility, ESG investment, private environmental litigation, and the public’s rights to environmental information and participation.
She founded and led the TEDE research project on the ecological transformation of business law, within which she (co-)edited several collective volumes, including Economic Law as a Catalyst for Ecological Transition (Bruylant, 2022, in French), The Ecological Turn of Economic Law: Actors and Methods (Mare & Martin, 2023, in French), The Ecological Transformation of Economic Law (Mare & Martin, 2026, in French), and Animals in EU Economic Law : A New Approach to Protecting Sentient Beings (Palgrave MacMillan, 2026, in English). Her current research explores how law can guide the development and governance of technology and data to support sustainable outcomes.
