The Goldberg variations: imaginary dialogues between a performer and his composer
On this occasion, we welcome the artist and opera singer Jean-Yves Patte, accompagnied by Artist and composers Franck Ciup, Laurent Ferlet and Eman Al Hashimi.

Programme

  • 7 :00pm – 7.45pm : « dialogue between a performer and his composer » by Jean-Yves Patte & Franck Ciup on piano (extracts of Variations Goldberg, Bach)
  • 7.45pm -8.10pm : open discussion (French and English) on Jean-Sébastien Bach’s rediscovery
  • 10pm – 8.30pm : « France-UAE Expressions », piano recital by Eman Al Hashimi, Franck Ciup and Laurent Ferlet

About the artists

Jean-Yves Patte

Art historian and singer, he worked with Veronique Dietschy and Jeff Cohen and has performed at Royal Opera of Versailles, Opéra-Comique, “Théâtre impérial de Compiègne” in addition to some tours. He has taken roles such as “Menelaus – the Beautiful Helene of Offenbach”, “Baron Grog” –  “Grand Duchess of Gerolstein of Offenbach” – (Scène Nationale Equinoxe de Châteauroux), “Grenville – Traviata de Verdi” . He is also a song program producer (Au Chat Noir, Let’s go ladies) and an actor (Golberg variations). He collaborates with the Debussy Festival since 2015 as a narrator.

Franck Ciup

French Pianist, Composer and graduate of l’ “École Normale de Musique” in Paris, Franck Ciup founded the Théâtre Saint Bonnet in 2006 in the French city of Bourges. Devoting himself to his passion, he built the theater in his house to share with the public his love of great composers. In 2013, he created “the “Concertopitaux” series, bringing music closer to hospitals’ patients. In November 2013, he was invited by composer Stéphane Blet to take part in the jury of the first Orchesta’Sion International Piano Competition in Istanbul. His discography includes, among others, Bach’s famous Goldberg variations, Schumman’s piano quintet and string quartet.

 Laurent Ferlet

French Pianist and Composer, Laurent Ferlet artistic personality is built on solid classical foundations. After winning the Gold Medal at the “Conservatoire Régional de Paris”, he joined the “Conservatoire National de Paris” where he studied under the supervision of Pierre Cancan and l’”École Normale Supérieure de Musique” where he worked with Jean Fassina and Miriam Ribicki. After spending two years at the Berklee School of Music (Boston, USA), where he took film-scoring courses, he developed an interest in live music, jazz and chamber music. His collaborations with international artists led him to compose ethno-symphonic mixtures. He also performed pieces for the Cinema such as compositions for the film “Black Eyes” by Nikita Mikhalkov.
Over the years, he has written numerous pieces for documentaries and TV series, all strongly influenced by his classical music background. He regularly gives chamber music concerts, and in particular fourhanded piano pieces.

 Eman Al Hashimi

Emarati Pianist and Composer, Eman Al Hashimi is also a poet and writer. Known for bringing together Western and Arabic music influences, she is the first Emarati Pianist of “Orchestra” to perform in the UAE and the first to form a musical band to perform Emarati repertoire “Opera, Acapella and Rock”. She has represented the country in several local and international events from the World music day (UAE, 2000) to the 2015 Expo Milan. She composed Operettes in the name of the Mother of the Nation her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak and on the occasion of the “Year of Zayed” in honor of the Founding Father of the UAE, his Highness the late Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
