About the Exhibition
We are thrilled to extend an invitation to the Opening Ceremony of the Photography Exhibition “What We Leave Behind” by Mathilde Magnier.

This UAE series, started when Mathilde Magnier Rabate moved to the Emirates in 2014, bears witness to a decade of economic, social and environmental development of a region in complete mutation. Through these images, Magnier attempts to document the impact of the country’s rapid transformation on the Emirati traditional landscape and ecosystems. In a part of the world where nature long remained untouched, her aim is to question how such changes may transform the local environment as well as the relationship between people and their natural habitat.

About the Artist

Mathilde Magnier-Rabate is trained in humanities in Paris and in Dublin, and is specialized in communication and photography. Drawn into day to day out of frame experience as well as uncommon social spaces, she captures society and its environment in raw light. Magnier started professional photography in Haiti where she was posted as a humanitarian officer after the 2010 earthquake. Over time she developed a deep social gaze and a strong eye for those living on the margin, documenting and questioning our society models and their impacts on our living environment. Her work focuses on social themes such as environmental and social change, cultural identities, migration, refugees. She currently lives and works in Abu Dhabi.
