Abstract

The Department of French Studies, in collaboration with the Department of Student Affairs, is pleased to invite you to the 70th anniversary of the premiere of En attendant Godot (Waiting for Godot), a work by the Irish writer Samuel Beckett, Nobel Prize winner in literature. To celebrate the event, you are invited to attend the performance of this play.
Waiting for Godot is a play by the Irish writer Samuel Beckett, featuring Vladimir and Estragon, who wait in vain for Godot to arrive. The absence of Godot and his identity have given rise to multiple hypotheses and interpretations.
The play, published in 1952 (Les Éditions de Minuit) then created in Paris in 1953, explores the absurdity of human existence through the relationships of Vladimir and Estragon, two old friends who meet Pozzo and Lucky, a strange duo, then a Boy, messenger of Godot. This play, both comic and metaphysical, has been translated into more than 40 languages, perceived as full of meaning by spectators around the world. It is one of the most important theatrical works of the 20th century.
