Dr Cécilia Hurley-Griener
Cecilia Hurley took her MA degree in Literae humaniores form the University of Oxford, her doctorate in history from the University of Neuchâtel and her Habilitation à diriger des recherches in Art History from the University of Lyon II. She was formerly Curator of the Bibliothèque des Pasteurs in Neuchâtel (founded 1540) and is now Director of Special Collections at the University of Neuchâtel. She is also a member of the research team and a lecturer at the Ecole du Louvre... She has written widely on a number of subjects including Swiss artists (Léopold Robert, Aurèle Robert and Maximilien de Meuron), the history of museums, collecting and display, as well as the history of antiquarian thought, and the history, classification and dissemination of art literature and art history. Her publications include Monuments for the people (2013, awarded a Gold Medal by the Académie des Inscriptions et des Belles-Lettres), two conferences (Sammeln und Sammlungen im 18. Jahrhundert in der Schweiz (2007) and Le Catalogue dans tous ses états (with Claire Barbillon, 2015)) as well as various articles. Her forthcoming book, Le canon à l’épreuve, is a study of the tradition of masterpiece rooms in European fine-art museums during the long nineteenth century.
Dr Caroline Autret
An assistant professor, Head of the Department Archaeology and History of Art at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi. Before being appointed at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, she was teaching in France and was awarded several postdoctoral fellowships in Turkey, Switzerland and France. Dr Caroline Autret is an archaeologist specialised in the Greek and Roman worlds. Relying on ancient maritime transport containers, the amphorae, her research focuses on maritime trading and commercial relationships… and hence economic history in the ancient Eastern Mediterranean. Her studies also involve craftsmanship, ancient technology and eating habits in Antiquity. She participated in many international archaeological projects, surveys and excavations especially in Turkey and Cyprus, but she is also currently collaborating on projects in Delos (Greece) and Pompeii (Italy). Moreover, as she is now working in Abu Dhabi, she intends to develop an archaeological research project in the UAE starting next year.
