In collaboration with the embassy of Italy in Abu Dhabi and the Italian Cultural Institute, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi hosted on campus a concert titled “Morabeza” featuring the renowned Italian artist Tiziana Tosca, who previously performed with top Italian and international talents and has been recognised with Italy’s most important music awards.

The concert was attended by more than a hundred visitors and dignitaries including HE Massimo Baggi, Ambassador of Switzerland to the UAE, and HE Nicola Lener, Ambassador of Italy to the UAE who were welcomed by Prof Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi.

This concert came in line with Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s community engagement and outreach activities especially on the cultural level. Guests and students enjoyed Tosca’s performance of a variety of songs that she sang in different languages from her album “Morabeza”, where she celebrated the mixing of cultures and the feelings of love and passion using different musical instruments.

The evening ended with a very warm applause from the audience. HE Nicola Lener, ambassador of Italy to the UAE “Tosca is one of the most interesting voices on the Italian music scene. Her presence in Abu Dhabi, in the magnificent atrium of the Sorbonne, is an excellent way to spread the opening of contemporary Italian music to foreign musical traditions. Welcoming other cultures is increasingly important in today’s world, as testified by the exceptional cultural diversity of the United Arab Emirates”.

Prof Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi commented “At Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, we are proud of hosting such an amazing artist like Tiziana Tosca, who embraces cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue through modern reinterpretations of world classics of music. Her art takes us through a journey of musical tradition and experimentation, that embodies the globalized world we are living in, celebrates and difference between people and brings us together through expressing unified deep emotions that the music encapsulates.”
