The graduation of the seventh cohort of the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and The National Library and Archives celebrated the seventh graduation ceremony for the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management.

The graduates of the seventh cohort of the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management work across various governmental institutions and ministries such as the UAE Ministry of Defense, Abu Dhabi Executive Office, Nawah Company, Fujairah Municipality, and the National Library and Archives in UAE.

The ceremony was held at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s campus and was attended by Prof Silvia Serrano, Vice-Chancellor Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali, Acting Director-General of The National Library and Archives, Dr Yann Rodier, Head of History Department at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and Mr Hamad Al Mutairi, the Director of the Archives Department at The National Library and Archives as well as a group of teaching professors.

The graduation ceremony started with a speech by His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali, Acting Director-General of the National Library and Archives where he quoted His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, saying, “Preserving documents for future generations is one of the main traits of the country’s development and sovereignty”. His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali added: “I am confident that Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, in cooperation with The National Library and Archives, are able to qualify these graduands and enable them to keep pace with scientific theories, new concepts, and advanced technologies introduced to the archiving process by the massive information revolution.”

During the graduation, Prof Silvia Serrano congratulated all the graduates and complimented them for successfully completing this professional certificate with great dedication.

She also highlighted the importance of the cooperation between Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and The National Library and Archives by saying:
“Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi collaborated with the National Library and Archives to create this training programme aimed at enhancing know-how and leadership skills in records management and archiving, both the university and the National Library and Archives share the belief that a nation’s progress depends on preserving the past and learning from it. Therefore, this constructive partnership had a great contribution in helping preserve the nation’s historical documents in accordance with the highest international standards, and in enabling us to cater to the needs of various ministries, state and federal bodies, as well as private companies.”

Meanwhile, Professor Silvia Serrano, His Excellency Abdulla Majed Al Ali presented the degrees to the graduands.

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi and The National Library and Archives had both emphasised the importance of the theoretical and practical modules offered through the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management, and that this in particular should be a strong motivation for official institutions across the country to enrol their archivists in the Professional Certificate in Archives and Records Management in order who would be able to use scientific methodologies to preserve their institutions’ records and memory, which is part of the nation’s memory
