Do sovereign wealth funds dampen the effect of oil market volatilities on GDP growth in oil-exporting countries? (led by Dr Salem Boubakri)
Project summary
This study examines the effect of oil market volatility on real GDP growth in some oil exporting countries. Our main contribution is to assess the role of sovereign wealth funds as transmission channels from the oil market to the real economy. We rely on a panel smooth transition regression model to test the effect of oil price and revenue volatilities on real GDP growth. Our findings demonstrate that this effect is non-linear and depends on the threshold level of sovereign wealth fund assets growth.
